Is The Good and the Beautiful Preschool Curriculum Worth It?

Here’s our honest review of The Good and the Beautiful’s Preschool and Kindergarten Prep Language Arts programs — and how it helped my daughter read fluently before age 4.

What We Used for Phonics Starting at Age 2.5

After my daughter turned about 2.5 years old, we started using The Good and the Beautiful Preschool Course Book. We later moved on to the Kindergarten Prep Course Book — and now at age 3.5, we’ve started the full Kindergarten Language Arts Curriculum.

Most of their Language Arts curriculum is available as a free digital download, but Preschool and Kindergarten Prep are not free. Still, they’re super affordable, and worth every penny.

We personally prefer the physical books. The quality is beautiful — and with all the flipping, coloring, and tracing involved, it holds up better than printing at home.

Why This Curriculum Stood Out

Both the Preschool and Kindergarten Prep books are gentle — they don’t require tons of handwriting, which is great for toddlers who are still building motor skills. The focus is on actual phonics: letter sounds, short vowels, and blending.

The curriculum is also open-and-go. It tells you exactly what to say on each page, which makes it beginner-friendly even for first-time homeschoolers.

What’s Included?

  • 90+ colorful, structured lessons in the Preschool book
  • Letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and short vowel sounds
  • Minimal writing — mostly coloring, tracing, and oral activities
  • Folder games, review sections, and optional practice sheets

Even though my daughter tested at a 1st grade level, we still did Kindergarten Prep to reinforce tricky vowel sounds — and I’m glad we did!

Favorite Activities We Loved

Some of our favorites were the “Vowel Vine” and “Password Castle” games. These were creative and really helped lock in those early blending skills.

They even include phonics blending videos you can watch alongside the lessons — perfect for review or if your child learns best visually.

Would I Recommend It?

Yes, 100%. Especially for busy parents or moms like me who want something easy to follow, but still academic. It’s not “just cute” — it’s solid, structured, and it works.

We tried other programs like Playing Preschool and Gentle + Classical… and they just didn’t deliver. This one did.
